Well, today was a typical day. Fill up the car, get Trey’s glasses adjusted, teach him to ride a bike, just the normal stuff. That’s right, my son is riding a two wheeler, as he calls it. We tried a couple months back, but it really did not work out. The seldom driven on street was suddenly trafficy, and just did not work out. This morning I filled up the tires in the bikes and took Crisana and Trey to a flatish parking lot. It just happened to be the parking lot for Fairview’s City Hall, Fire Department, Police Station, Animal Control and whatever else is there. I figured Saturday was a good day to bike ride there. It was.
We started this morning, and teaching someone to ride a bike is not to easy. You just run with them, let go, and hope for the best. Well, the first couple of runs did not go that well, and I was getting a little discouraged. It may be easier to nail Jell-o to a tree. Well, Trey figured out the balance thing enough to make a ride for about 40 feet or so. I was really impressed. I gave him a high five and we tried again. He rode another 40 feet or so. Within a minute we were up to about 150 feet in a straight line. It was so cool. The Wright Brothers first flight was less than that! We tried to work on turning, but that just did not take that well. I took Trey to a special lunch at McDonald’s, his choice. The store has Wi-Fi too!
This afternoon we went out again, this time with Mom, cameras, and camcorders. Trey did his usual 150 footish ride and Mom was pretty excited. Mom got all of this on some form of camera, and we will post pics / videos when I get them off the respective cameras. We wanted to start to work on turns, and he sort of figured that out too. His longest ride was three laps around the parking lot, so about 1050 feet or so. That is even longer than the Wright Brothers longest flight that December day. ( I have to keep my love for aircraft in this somehow) Trey made four or five two lap trips around the lot too, and more one lap trips. He is still shakey and awkward, but he is riding a bike. We are both so proud of him.
