My new Windows Home Serve machine has been order from Newegg.com. They beat everybody hands down, and shipping was in the 4% neighborhood, maybe even less. Newegg only has 3 day ground as their slowest, so I hope to have it by next Friday. It just depends on how quickly the order gets processed and shipped out. There is some Deity’s birthday amongst that as well. Other folks have posted there specs for build outs, so here are mine:
- Motherboard: Asus M2A-VM
- CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windsor 2.0 GHz
- Case: CoolerMaster Elite RC-330 with 350W P/S
- RAM: 2GB DDR2 800 (1GB x 2 Wintec AMPO 2GB)
- CPU Fan: Hiper HFC-20820-C1
- Case Fan: Cooler Master SAF-S21-E1
- DVD R/W: Samsung 20x
- Hard Drives: 2 x Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200 rpm SATA
- Thermal Pooky: Arctic Silver 5
- Switch: D-Link 8 Port
- OS: Microsoft Windows Home Server
I am incredibly please with this system. I did buy one extra case fan and an 8 port switch to replace my floundering 5 port switch. Those were the only extra items I purchased. The other extra was just going over and above the Microsoft specs for WHS. This system should last a long time, is upgradeable, and came in right around the same price point at the HP Media Smart Server. I will be sure to give a follow report once it is operational.
