Well, the server is up and running. I had one issue with one cooling fan, but that has been solved. I have learned that MS WHS and Norton Internet Security do not play well together. I have opened the correct ports on Norton, even installed the correct allowable app (it said it was already allowed) and it still blocks my access to WHS. I think the easy fix is to remove Norton completely. I disabled it for the night and did get a complete backup of my desktop. More updates to follow…
UPDATE:
I have learned that Microsoft WHS does not play well with Norton Internet Security. I had to disable it to get to the console screen. That is kind of a big deal since WHS is headless. Ya kind of need the console screen. So, I did what anyone else would do, I uninstalled it. Norton Anti-Virus is still installed, and active. It appears not to have loused anything up. I have installed the client on the two main PCs and have backups for each now. MS makes that very easy. WHS has been humming along for a week now and doing fine. There are numerous add-ons that I need to start to look at, but that will take time. The next two weeks will be a sprint, so getting it operational is a big step. Streaming music and video will come, just later on.
