they call me tooka chinchilla…..

translated: fluffy bunny feet.  We went to see the creature teacher tonight at Trey’s school.  We got to see a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach, a large African millipede, a salamander, milk snake, tarantula, a parrot, and a chinchilla.  Chinchillas are the second softest fur in the world, only the sea otter’s is softer.  No, the otter one!  They take baths by roilling in the dust.  Water will destroy their coat.  Interesting.  I was amazed at the parrot though.  I know parrots can talk and mimic sounds.  I now know I never want a parrot.  The parrot we saw can say about a dozen or so words, you just never know when it will talk.  They usually talk when you are on the phone or trying to sleep, or so I am told.  I also learned what you never say to your parrot, “Be quiet!”  Why, because it will start telling you to be quiet.  Okay, here are the sounds that this parrot can make, almost perfectly too.  A cat’s meow, the microwave dinging, a knock at the door, the doorbell, the phone ringing….get the idea?  The owner does not know how many times she has answered the door and no one is there.  I think it may be the perfect gift for someone you really dislike.  It was a fun time, and the kids had fun too.

  1. cool… we used to have a cockatiel, named Seahawk, that eventually could utter a garbled ‘pretty bird’.
