UpWards Award Night

Well, the Upward season has come to a close. We started practices in December, ran an eight week season, and had the finale last night. We started really preparing for Upwards last July, so it is about an eight month adventure. I do not know how well the season went, but I thought the awards ceremony went realy well. Yeah, the acoustics in our gym are pretty poor on a good day, but not much we can do about that. I thought Mavs Man just rocked. Others have said he was off his game, but I enjoyed it. This was my first time to see Mavs Man up and close, and I really had fun. I think one of the reasons I like him so much is the stupid grin the costume has. Who knows what the guy behind the mask was doing, but the costume just makes you smile. It was really fun.
Okay, now to a little deeper. Mavs Man has a costume with a stupid grim that makes people smile and laugh. I am a very transparant person. I do not wear a costume, people see me for who I really am. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? My first impressions are usually not very good because I do not wear a costume. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Should I just fake it and not let people know who I really am? That is the relevant conundrum for me right now.  Do people care more about the costume, or the person wearing the costume?  Just a Monday morning observation.

  1. The pesimistic side of me says, people would rather see the costume, so they don’t have to get involved with the messy-ness that is relationships, but having experienced both situations, I prefer to be without my costume. The relationships that stand the test of time, pain and heartache are worth it. It’s those people who see you for who you really are behind the mask and costume and stick around even when they know the real you that make being costumeless bearable.

You and Debbi are two of those people in my life. Thank You.
