The Great Divide

There is a song that I know and Like that has this in the chorus:

There is a bridge to cross the Great Divide,

There is a Cross to bridge the Great Divide.

A good friend of ours had put her faith in Jesus Christ years ago, and has now used Christ’s Cross to bridge the Great Divide.  We got the call early last night that Shelly had a medical emergency and was taken to the hospital.  The prognosis was not good and Gene was told to prepare for the worst.  I got a call later that night and Shelly had crossed over to the eternal care of  Jesus Christ.  Shelly was enjoying dinner with Gene when all this happened.  Out of respect for the family I am leaving all medical details off this blog.  If you know them, then you know the details.  If you don’t you don’t need to know the details.  I am not even sure if I need to know them, but I guess it does help answer the question:  Why?

James 4:14 reminds us that our life is like a vapor.  How true that is.  One moment we are here, the next we are gone.  My faith has always been in the rapture.  I have not thought about dying much.  I am not afraid of death, but the act of death, dying, I am very much afraid of.  Shelly’s death could have been much worse for her.  For that, I am grateful.

Shelly leaves behind way too many people.  Each will deal with this loss in their own way.  My heart goes out to Ben right now.  My earliest memories are from when I was four.  I do have a lot of memories from five.  How does Ben deal with barely being able to remember his own Mom?  Jacob and Rachael are old and mature enough to not need as much help.  Ben is five, or maybe six now!  How does Gene handle being a widower, a single parent?  I do not have answers, only questions.  I could fill up this blog with questions.

My heart goes out to the entire clan right now:  Gene, Jacob, Rachael, Ben, Carolee, Bob, Dan, Felicia, and others that I don’t even know.

Shelly, you are truly missed.
